How do I download and deploy pre-provisioned cookies?

For background on using pre-provisioned cookies, see About Pre-Provisioned Cookies.

A. Download the Pre-Provisioned Cookies

Only super admins can use the API to download cookies.

  1. Open a browser and enter the query address, which consists of the base URL address for downloading cookies and the query string.
The base URL address for downloading cookies is:
For example, if you are on the cloud, the URL is
Appending the query string to the end utilizes the API. Some examples are:
  2. When the authentication window appears, enter the username and password.
  3. When the service displays the compressed (zip) file of all the cookie files, save it.

The file is zipped and downloaded as: cookiejar-<orgid>-<date>.zip. Each cookie contained within the zip file will be of the form: <email-address>.sol

For example, the user’s flash cookie from the example above was stored in the following location:

C:\Users\Joe-User\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\M93YFY4E\\zscaler.swf

The following table shows common operating system locations for flash cookies (LSOs).

Operating System Location

Windows 95/98/2000/XP

c:/Documents and Settings/username/Application Data/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/<RANDOMLY-NAMED-DIRECTORY>/<Domain Directories><FLASH COOKIES>

Windows Vista

c:/Users/username/AppData/Roaming/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/<RANDOMLY-NAMED-DIRECTORY>/<Domain Directories><FLASH COOKIES>

Mac OS X

Directories><FLASH COOKIES>

/home/username/.macromedia/Flash_Player/#SharedObjects/<RANDOMLY-NAMED-DIRECTORY>/<Domain Directories><FLASH COOKIES>

As shown in the table, the #SharedObjects directory is the container directory, containing a randomly named directory. This randomly named directory consists of the domain directories, which holds the flash cookies.

B. Deploying Cookies

To deploy downloaded cookies:

  1. Verify that Flash is already installed.
  2. Check to see that the directories outlined above (%APPDATA\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects) exist.
    • If the directory does not exist, either install Flash or manually create all the directories up to #SharedObjects, then create an additional random directory (letters in caps with or without numbers, eight alpha-numeric digits long). Within the newly created random directory, create the directory. Within that, create the zscaler.swf directory.
  3. Once the directory is validated, rename the cookie as zscaler_auth.sol, and place it in the zscaler.swf directory.

This entire process can be automated via scripting based on administration requirements.
